18u-Open - Wilmington, DE - July 10-12

3-2 showcase games, 0-1 bracket play


Scream kicked off their final showcase of the season against PA Sting Premier. Taylor Wilson and Gennie Aul each plated a run in the first inning, but the opposition would respond with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. Abby Eckstein would score on a wild pitch in the third, while Abby Gray, Josa Burris, and Megan Sparks would all add RBIs in the fourth, leading to a 7-3 win. Sparks struck out 5 batters over 4 innings of work and surrendered 3 earned runs on 5 hits.


Game two was versus Pocono Pride Black. Pride scored five runs in the first before Bella Rosselli hit a two-run double to cut into the deficit. Scream would fall 7-3. Ella Lee pitched 4 innings, allowed 7 runs on 11 hits with 2 strikeouts, before giving way to Anna Davidson, who pitched a scoreless inning in relief.


Saturday’s action began against Rock Gold. Scream would find themselves in a 3-0 hole after three innings before Aul hit an RBI single. However, the game would end as a 4-1 loss. Davidson pitched 5 innings, surrendering 3 earned runs on 9 hits with 2 strikeouts.


Top Gun was next on the schedule. The offense came alive, plating eleven runs in 4 innings. Big showings came from Davidson (2-3, 2B), Wilson (2-3, 2B, 3 RBI), Eckstein (2-2, RBI), and Gray (2-3, 2B, 3 RBI). Lee pitched 4.2 innings, allowed 1 earned run, and struck out 1 in the team’s 11-3 win.


The final showcase game was versus Krunch Premier. The girls put up five runs across the first two innings via RBIs by Davidson, Wilson, Eckstein, and Rosselli. Sparks pitched 5 solid innings, only allowing 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 1, leading to a 6-1 win.


Sunday’s bracket play began against Blue Angels. After the teams traded runs in the first, the opposition would score seven more before Wilson hit her second home run of the season to make the score 8-2. Down seven runs an inning later, Scream rallied for five runs in the final inning via singles from Gray, Josa Burris, Sparks, Lee, and Lyla Plummer. However, it would not be enough as Scream fell 9-7. Davidson started and went 2.2 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 9 hits, before being lifted for Sparks, who allowed 2 earned runs in 2.1 innings of relief.


Up Next: Scream will travel to Niagara Falls, NY for the Crystal Beach Classic, beginning on Friday, July 17.
