2-0 pool play, 3-0 bracket play, 1st place 🥇

Scream began their final tournament of the season against Fury Rowan. Gennie Aul plated two with a single in the first and Lyla Plummer hit an RBI double in the third. In the fifth, the offense put up ten runs following RBIs from Taylor Wilson, Aul, Megan Sparks, Abby Eckstein, Ella Lee, Josa Burris, and Plummer. Starter Anna Davidson would cruise to a 13-0 win, pitching 5 shutout innings, while allowing 2 hits and picking up 5 strikeouts.

Tuesday’s action continued against Greylock Thunder. The offense plated twenty runs over three innings, headlined by Davidson (3-3, 2B, GS, 8 RBI), Wilson (2-2, 2B, 2 RBI), Aul (2-3, 2 R), Abby Gray (2-3, 2B, RBI), and Bella Rosselli (2 RBI). Lee pitched 3 innings, and allowed 1 run on 1 hit, striking out 2.

Following a total rainout of Wednesday and Thursday, Scream’s final pool game was cancelled and they would be placed into the bracket as the top seed from their pool.

Bracket play began against Valley Storm. Gray hit an RBI single in the second, followed by a Burris two-run single, Lee single, and Rosselli single to give the girls a 5-0 lead. The opposition would score twice in the third, but the offense responded with three of their own via an Aul bases-loaded walk and Sparks two-run single. Sparks (5 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 5 K) would carry the six-run lead into the sixth inning, before being relieved by Lee (1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER) for the final three outs, giving Scream an 8-3 win.

The semifinal match was versus Softball U CT. Following a leadoff home run for the opposition, Davidson and Wilson each reached base with two outs and were driven in by Aul. An inning later, with the bases loaded and Softball U threatening, Plummer made a diving catch in center field to cut down at least one run. However, they would tie the game one batter later at 2-2. In the bottom of the second, Rosselli singled, and was moved to second via a Burris bunt. With two outs, Lee and Eckstein singled to give the girls a 3-2 lead. The game would be postponed after the top of the third due to rain and resumed Saturday morning. Starter Davidson would finish at 3 innings pitched, 2 earned runs on 5 hits, and 1 strikeout. Upon resumption, Aul struck again with an RBI double that plated Plummer. The teams would trade runs in the fifth, with Wilson giving Scream its two-run cushion back. This was enough for Sparks (4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 K) to finish off her 12-out save in relief, aided by a 4-6-3 double play from Lee, Rosselli, and Davidson in the bottom of the seventh.

Scream’s quest for a national championship culminated against MA Stars. After a scoreless first inning, the offense had a seven-run explosion in the second. Following walks from Sparks and Rosselli and a Gray single, Sparks would score on a wild pitch. Then, Eckstein hit a two-run single, followed by a Plummer two-run single. Davidson and Wilson each added an RBI, making the score 7-0 after two. In the fourth, Charley LaBarbera drove in Eckstein and then scored on a double steal. Aul would then clinch Scream a national championship with an RBI single to secure a 10-0 run-rule victory. Davidson pitched a 4-inning shutout, surrendering 3 hits, while striking out 6 batters.
