16u-Open - Niagara Falls, NY - July 17-19

4-0 pool play, 2-1 bracket play, 2nd place 🥈

Scream’s tournament began against NH Lightning. Anna Davidson hit an RBI double to start the scoring, while Abby Gray would add one of her own an inning later. Abby Eckstein would start a ten-run explosion in the fourth with an RBI triple. This was followed by a Megan Sparks two-run double, Josa Burris RBI single, and Davidson inside-the-park grand slam. Sparks pitched 4 innings, allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, and struck out 4 en route to a 13-3 win.

Friday’s action continued against Passion Burja. Davidson hit a two-run home run to open the game, while Ella Lee reached on an error to give the girls a 3-1 lead. However, the opposition would score six runs in the fourth to chase starter Lee (4 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 1 K) from the game. The offense picked her up though, scoring two in the fifth and four in the sixth to make the score 9-7. Davidson pitched the final two innings in relief, securing the win.

Saturday’s games began versus BC Regulators. Scream scored eighteen runs in four innings, led by Lyla Plummer (2-3, 2B, 4 RBI), Davidson (1-3, 3B, 2 RBI), Lee (1-2, 2 RBI), and Eckstein (2 RBI). This was plenty for Davidson (4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 K) to cruise to an 18-3 win.

The final pool game was against Erie Lady Outlaws. Another strong offensive showing resulted in a 13-1 win after three innings. LaBarbera (2-3, 2B, 2 RBI), Plummer (2-2, 2B, RBI), and Sparks (2-2, 2B, 2 RBI) led the team in hits. Sparks pitched a 1-hitter over 3 innings, allowing 1 unearned run, while striking out 2, clinching the second overall seed heading into bracket play.

Scream’s first bracket game was versus Southern Tier Thunder. After a scoreless two innings, Bella Rosselli led off the third with a double before LaBarbera drove her in. Davidson, Gennie Aul, Eckstein, and Sparks all had two-out RBIs to give Scream a 6-0 lead. An inning later, LaBarbera hit a two-run single and Davidson added one of her own, extending the lead to nine. Sparks (5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 K) finished off her shutout in the fifth, advancing Scream to the semifinals.

Scream’s semifinal was against Central PA Wolfpack. The offense broke the scoreless tie in the third via Plummer and Davidson singles and a Taylor Wilson double to make the score 3-0. Davidson strung together a fine pitching performance, throwing a 7-inning complete game, in which she allowed 1 earned run on 10 hits, striking out 7, sending her team to the title game.

The championship game was versus North Buffalo Wildcats. After the opposition scored twice in the first, Scream responded with three of their own via a Wilson two-run triple and Aul groundout. However, the Wildcats would score four unanswered runs, leading to a 6-3 defeat. Sparks battled over 7 innings of work, striking out 4 batters.
