1-2 showcase games, 1-1 bracket play
Scream began their showcase weekend against Xpress Elite Black. The offense scored five runs with two outs in the first following a Gennie Aul RBI and ground balls that forced errors off the bats of Ella Lee, Charley LaBarbera, and Megan Sparks. However, the opposition would tie the game up at 5-5 in the third inning, but Taylor Wilson forced in a run in the fourth to give Scream the lead back. Xpress countered with a run of the own in their half of the inning and another one inning later, and Scream fell 7-6. Sparks pitched 4 innings, allowing 5 earned runs on 6 hits, striking out 4 hitters. She made way for Lee, who surrendered an unearned run in one inning of relief.
Saturday’s action continued against Pocono Pride Scarlet. Pocono Pride scored three runs in the first, but hits from Lyla Plummer, Wilson, and Abby Heidrich cut the deficit to one run. Pride responded with two more runs an inning later, but a Plummer RBI single made the score 5-3 after two. LaBarbera drove in another run in the fourth, but the opposition responded with another run of their own in the fifth. Scream threatened in their half of the fifth, scoring to make the score 6-5, but could not plate any more, ending the game. Heidrich pitched 5 innings and allowed 5 earned runs on 6 hits.
The final showcase game was against TYA Xplosion. After Xplosion scored in the first, singles from Heidrich, Plummer, and Wilson, and a groundout from Aul gave Scream a 3-1 lead. They extended their lead in the third following a Bella Rosselli single, Plummer triple, and Wilson double, making the score 5-1. Wilson tacked on an insurance run in the fifth, with a sacrifice fly. This was enough for starter Davidson to pitch to a 6-2 win. Over 6 innings of work, she allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits, striking out 3 batters.
Sunday’s blind draw bracket began against Lady Steel South. Every starter on offense reached base with Heidrich (2-4, 2 1B, 2 RBI), Plummer (3-4, 3 1B, 3 RBI), Wilson (2-3, 2B, 3B, 2 RBI), Lee (2-2, 2 1B, 3 RBI), and Abby Gray (1-3, 3 RBI) all having great showings at the plate. The offense plated 21 runs over 3 innings, more than enough for starter Davidson (3 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 4 K) to pick up her second win of the weekend.
The next bracket game was a rematch against Xpress Elite Black. Scream scored three early runs via a Plummer triple, Wilson single, and Davidson double, but Xpress Elite responded with four of the own a half-inning later. Wilson and Heidrich picked up 2 more RBIs, giving their team the lead back at 5-4. However, the opposition would score six unanswered runs, leading to a 10-5 defeat. Heidrich started and pitched 3.1 innings, allowing 9 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits and 4 strikeouts. She was lifted for Sparks, who pitched the remaining 2.2 innings in relief, allowing 1 run on 4 hits.
