16u-Open - Ocean City, MD - June 19-21

3-1 pool play, 0-1 bracket play, 5th place

Scream began their tournament weekend against Delaware Diamonds. Taylor Wilson clubbed a solo home run in the first, and Lyla Plummer added one of her own in the fifth, but it was not enough, as the opposition won 4-2. Anna Davidson allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 5 innings of work, striking out 6 batters.

Friday’s second game was versus Gold Coast Hurricanes. After the Hurricanes scored in the second, Scream plated four runs in the third. Abby Eckstein hit an RBI single, Charley LaBarbera hit a two-run single, and Abby Heidrich scored on a wild pitch. This was enough for starter Megan Sparks (4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 K) to lead her team to a 4-1 win.

The offense came alive on Saturday versus Hudson Elite, scoring 14 runs in 6 innings. Ten different batters recorded a hit, with LaBarbera having two, Davidson three, and Gennie Aul two (with four RBIs). Ella Lee also had multiple RBIs. Heidrich pitched 6 strong innings, allowed 3 earned runs on 7 hits, and struck out 4 batters.

The hot bats continued against Diamond to Boardroom, led by Heidrich’s 3 RBIs. Lee cruised to a 3-inning, 12-0 victory, allowing only 1 hit while striking out 3, and clinching the 5th overall seed out of 19 teams heading into bracket play.

Sunday’s action began against Delmarva Heat. The opposition jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Scream would rally in the fourth via a Lee single, Eckstein sacrifice bunt, and LaBarbera single, and had runners on the corners in the final inning, but ultimately fell short by a score of 3-1.

Up Next: Scream head to their second showcase of the summer in Columbus, NJ, as they take part in the Atlantic Summer Showcase. Games begin Friday afternoon.
