18u - Columbus, NJ - June 26-28

4-0 showcase play, 2-1 bracket play, 3rd place 🥉

Scream began their second showcase of the summer against NW Explosion. The offense put across three runs in the first via a Lyla Plummer fielder’s choice, wild pitch that scored Taylor Wilson, and an Abby Gray groundout. Explosion would score three of their own a half inning later, tying the game. Megan Sparks, Anna Davidson, Gray, and Gennie Aul would all add RBIs in the next two innings to give the girls an 8-3 lead, which is how the score would remain. Ella Lee pitched 4.2 scoreless innings in relief, allowing only 2 hits, while striking out 1.

Game 2 was versus PA Sting Premier. Davidson provided a first-inning run through a sacrifice fly, while Abby Heidrich hit an RBI single in the third. Aul, Lee, and Sparks added RBIs of their own in the fourth, extending the lead to five. Following a Josa Burris triple in the fifth, Charley LaBarbera added on, and was followed by a Davidson single, Plummer ground out, and Lee reaching on an error, giving Scream nine runs for the game. This was plenty for starter Davidson (5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 K) to cruise to a 9-1 win.

Saturday’s action began against Staten Island Assassins. Burris, Gray, and Abby Eckstein all had multiple hits and RBIs, leading to a 9-1 win. Starter Sparks pitched well over 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit and 1 unearned run with 4 strikeouts.

The final showcase game was versus SJ Gators. Burris continued her strong offensive showing with another RBI double in the first. Eckstein would hit a two-run double in the fifth, ultimately enough for the 5-1 win. Heidrich pitched 5 innings, surrendered 1 run on 3 hits, and struck out 2.

Sunday’s bracket play began against NJ Stars. After a scoreless first, Stars took the lead in the second. In the bottom of the inning, Scream plated four via an Aul double, Lee ground ball that scored two, and Heidrich single. Aul added another double, scoring two runs, while Gray added one of her own in the third. Sparks once again cruised to victory, pitching 5 strong innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, and striking out 1.

The next game was versus Jersey Girls. A pitching duel broke out, with the first three innings ending scoreless. In Scream’s half of the fourth, Wilson doubled, LaBarbera singled, and Gray tripled to give the girls a 2-0 lead. This was all that starter Davidson needed, as she pitched a 6-inning shutout, allowing 5 hits while striking out 4.

Scream’s semifinal match came against Wagner’s Huff. Davidson began the game with another RBI triple and Bella Rosselli would add an RBI single an inning later. Wilson also hit a sacrifice fly in the third. However, the opposition would plate nine runs over four innings, ending Scream’s weekend. Heidrich (1.2 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 1 K) started on the mound before being lifted for Lee (2.1 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 2 K).
